Gardenhire back with Twins after brother's death
CHICAGO (AP) -- Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire rejoined the team today after missing the last five games due to the death of his brother -- but he didn't stick around.
Gardenhire returned to the dugout as the Twins were in Chicago to wrap up their three-game series against the White Sox.
He was ejected in the sixth inning by plate umpire Doug Eddings after a rare double steal by the White Sox. It was Gardenhire's 37th career ejection and first this season.
Before the game, Gardenhire told reporters he was still trying to cope with the loss of 54-year-old Mike Gardenhire. He said he was "kind of numb."
He was ejected after two White Sox baserunners advanced after Chicago's Paul Konerko made a check swing on a 3-1 pitch. He started for first on a walk, but then on appeal it was ruled a strike.
